Police in southeast Poland arrested a man after a stabbing at a Catholic convent on Thursday, Sept. 24, left one person dead and four others wounded, according to a news release from the regional police.
Police received a report at 9:30 a.m. local time that a Ukrainian man stabbed someone with a knife at the Benedictine Abbey in Jaroslaw, Poland, a small town near the border with Ukraine.
The police report states that initial findings indicate that the 31-year-old man stabbed four men and one woman. It also states that all five were taken to the hospital and three of the men had serious injuries.
Local media reported that one of the injured men died in the hospital, citing the hospital and the police. Some outlets identified the victim who died as a Catholic priest, but EWTN News has not been able to independently confirm this information.
EWTN News reached out to the police and the convent but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
