Matthew 14:31
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
From Adam and Eve thinking that God was holding out on them, to the Israelites wondering if He's left them in the desert to die, to Peter sinking after walking on the stormy waters, to you and me and our own fickle hearts… we doubt.
In today's gospel reading, Peter tells Jesus to call out to Him to walk on the water in the middle of a big storm. I imagine that Peter told Jesus to do this because if Jesus said "Come" and he came, and it wasn't just a hairbrained stunt, then he could trust that Jesus would keep him safe. So Jesus did and Peter still panicked and started sinking.
But Jesus didn't point, laugh and roll his eyes. He reached out and grabbed Peter and kept him safe. What a good and loving God we serve!
Have you ever prayed for God to call you to something or reveal something to you? "Lord, show me the way." "Lord, help me make this decision." And then you were afraid to actually move, or doubtful that it would all work out? Well, stop!
Talk to God. LISTEN to God. Ask a trusted and faith-filled friend if they think it's the right move and then walk on the water. Jesus will be with you every step of the way and if you do have a human moment and start to worry, know that He will not let you drown.
