Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father."

Ever have one of those days when you think everything is going great and five minutes later it all falls apart? I bet that's how Peter felt during this exchange with Jesus. He goes from the head of the class to "Get behind me, Satan!" (Mt16:23a) I bet you have days like that too. The alarm goes off and you get out of bed feeling fresh and ready for Sunday mass. You even have time to check out the readings before going to church. Then you get the kids ready and chaos ensues. Next thing you know you are red in the face and yelling at them. Failure! Here's the cool thing though: Jesus didn't strip Peter of his blessings when he messed up. He reminded Peter to think the way God does instead of the way men do. The next time you get whiplash because of your inability to keep thinking like God, remember Jesus does the same for you!
When was the last time I felt I let God down by my actions or inactions?
Heavenly Father, give me the grace to remember that even in my failings you give me grace.
