When did we forget the lesson of Kindergarten?

By Davis

"Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven." Luke 6:37

Sharing is caring. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Don't eat the paste! I'm sure you have heard the phrase "all I really needed to know I learned in Kindergarten". There was even a book written about it in the 80's. Sure, after Kindergarten we still needed to acquire knowledge. But what we learned in those early years prepared us for the real world. Relationships; getting along with other people, lending a helping hand, loving someone other than mom or ourselves. As we get older I think we forget many of these things.

Today in Luke's Gospel Jesus breaks down the golden rule in terms we desperately need to remember. One of the things I like most about Lent is that it gives us an opportunity to  strip our faith down to the bare bones, our relationship with Jesus. During Lent we focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. I don't see room for judging others in there.

Question for Reflection

Do I really want God to use the same measure to judge me that I use for others?

Lord, give me the grace to extend forgiveness to those around me.
