Jesus answered and said to him, "Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
When I was a youth minister I used to love asking them how they would behave if Jesus was sitting next to them while they were out on a date. It never failed to get me a perplexed look. It's one thing to ask yourself "What Would Jesus Do?". It's a totally different thing to ask "What would Jesus say if he was standing next to me right now?" Because that question wasn't quite as catchy or easy to stitch on a bracelet as WWJD I would give the teens a little business card size picture of Jesus and tell them to put it in their wallet.
That's not a bad practice for any of us. How are we behaving out there in the world? Would we be happy to have Jesus sitting next to us while we navigate Tampa traffic or interact with our coworkers? Today's reading shows us that the Father and Son have already made their dwelling with us. So, like it or not he is with us right now. If you need to put a picture in your wallet to remember that… go for it!
