Remember being a kid and discovering you can pull your hand in your jacket to make it look like it's missing. Then trying to fool your parents into thinking something terrible happened to it? Graham tried that on us the other night and I couldn't get over how cute it was. His little mischievous grin thinking he is about to pull a fast one on us. Then of course we had to play along. Between that kind of stuff and us always asking our kids questions in an attempt to make them think for themselves, kids must really think adults are dumb!
It's really not hard to hide a hand is it? Even a five year old can figure it out. Today in the Gospel we experience a man who's had had been withered for many years. I'm sure that man received quite a bit of ridicule about his withered hand. Afterall in Jesus' day if there was anything wrong with you people thought it was because you had done something bad and deserved your misfortune. It would have been easy for the man to hide his deformity that day and miss out on the healing presence of Jesus. But he took a step of faith and allowed his brokenness to be visible. You may not have a physical deformity in need of healing but I am willing to bet you are carrying some kind of brokenness with you today. Don't fall to the temptation to hide it. Let your brokenness be accessible to the healing power of Jesus today.
