Jesus had some serious self-control...
Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times." John 13:38
Jesus had some serious self-control. He washed the feet of these men who would betray him, deny him multiple times and (with the exception of one) be nowhere to be found at his crucifixion, but Jesus is good. He loved and served them just the same, giving us a perfect model to follow.
Will we suffer if we commit to a life of service? Absolutely. Will we share in Jesus's glory? Absolutely.
Lord, give me the courage to die to myself and serve those who have hurt me.
