Jesus said to his disciples,
"Pay attention to what I am telling you.
The Son of Man is to be handed over to men."
But they did not understand this saying;
its meaning was hidden from them
so that they should not understand it,
and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Luke 9:44-45
What are some things you do not understand right now? For me, the political climate, world events, the climate changing around us are only a few of the topics I would like to gather more knowledge about. Those are things that are relevant in our world, but now let's try to imagine the world of the disciples. Many of them left their homes and belongings to travel and follow Jesus. They surely depended on Jesus to be consistent and true. So when Jesus spoke these words to the disciples, He predicted His passion, and they must have been completely taken by surprise. Jesus was a young healthy man, and he was their leader. People were amazed by Him, and I wonder if they thought: What could possibly go wrong?
As we go through the weekend and catch up on our "to do" lists and grocery shopping, let's take some time to seek in prayer the deeper meaning of our calling and why we are here. There is a lot of good we can do and I think many ways we can spread the love and peace of Christ. We can no longer go around and think: What could possibly go wrong? We need to prepare and be ready for anything and pray about how we can be more receptive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and our Guardian angels to protect us and guide us.
