The Swimming Pool

By Elle
I swam laps the other day and overheard a conversation between two other lap swimmers.

He saved us and called us to a holy life,
not according to our works
but according to his own design

2 Tim 1:9

I swam laps the other day and overheard a conversation between two other lap swimmers.  The one swimmer had a deep voice that works well for public speaking, so I wasn't eavesdropping at all.  We were the only ones around and they were talking with each other but from across the lanes, and since I was resting between laps right next to them, they clearly knew I was there. The one may have been a coach or mentor, and he said to the younger swimmer how important it is to pesevere and not just quit when things get tough.  Then I swam another lap or two and the conversation had changed. The conversation changed to the importance of living a holy life and leading a life that is united in Christ.  I heard that we cannot be happy unless we are living in union with God because we will never find true fulfillment here amongst ourselves. I heard that alot of people search for the kind of love that will only be found in Christ and although I know these things well, for the moment I was transfixed, as if hearing this for the first time.  I swam another set of laps and wondered why.

I think it is because I am not used to hearing these words outside church, or outside of Spirit FM.  God calls us to a holy life and as Christians, His design for us it to live in His way and find our happiness and fulfillment following Christ.   Simple as that.  So now I wonder why when I heard this in an unexpected place,  I was so taken.  Let us pray today for the grace to speak what we know, to lead holy lives, and to go where God calls us, even of it is to an unexpected place.
