John 13:27b-28
So Jesus said to Judas, "What you are going to do, do quickly." Now none of those reclining at table realized why he said this to him.
If you've never watched Fr. Mike Schmitz's videos, check them out. He has beautiful insight into so many aspects of our faith. I've always found Judas fascinating, so I decided to see what Fr. Mike had to say about him. He points out the obvious (that I hadn't ever considered). These twelve men had been living and serving with Jesus for THREE YEARS and none of them knew what was going on with Judas. None. Obviously Judas had been struggling with some stuff, but he didn't have a confidant, an accountability partner - a friend he could trust.
We all have sins we struggle with. Wearing masks and keeping them to ourselves gets us nowhere. What if Judas had been confiding in one of the other eleven? Maybe when he got up to leave the table that night, that guy could've picked up on the warning sign, gone after him and saved him from making a huge mistake (obviously we're putting aside all logic and necessity for the crucifixion and resurrection with this argument).
None of us should be so proud as to think we are immune from falling deep into sin. If you don't have a spiritual director or a friend who you can trust to keep you on track think about someone who you can connect with. Chances are, they might need you to be there for them too.
