The Power of Justice and Mercy

By Elle
I went to Boston a few weeks ago, and I have been reading all about the Boston Tea Party..

Light shines through the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious and merciful and just.
Well for the man who is gracious and lends,
who conducts his affairs with justice

Psalm 112:4-5

I went to Boston a few weeks ago, and I have been reading all about the Boston Tea Party and the rise to the rebellion which of course is the American Revolution.  John Adams headed out to his country house where his family was living in order to get out of his Boston house because  the city of Boston was beginning to be isolated with blockades preventing food and supplies the citizens had relied on.  On his way, he saw the road filled with wagons and carts and livestock going into town, loaded with grains, corn and salted meat.  It was an incredible display and all before the British could effectively block the way.  That is graciousness and just, and these people had compassion and the energy to put all that together, probably on very short notice.  I wonder if they knew of this Psalm and if they sang songs as they rode in to provide support for the Bostonians who were in need.  I hope that we can all muster up that same kind of support and action with quick notice if need be to help out our community's brothers and sisters.  We already have such wonderful organizations in place to help those who need assistance, and I hope we can all say a prayer of thanks for all the people who look after those in need with justice and mercy, and not just to have power over them.
