No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You know those moments when the call goes out at church for a family in need? Maybe someone is sick or just had a baby, they need meals or some light housework done to help get them by. Abby and I had the opportunity to respond to that call recently. The first one was a elderly couple who needed dinner on Christmas Eve. I'll be honest, with the stress of the holidays that one was a little hard to say yes to. I'm sure everyone has done something like this before, either at church or the office, maybe even for a close friend going through a hard time. We don't really think much of it at the time.
In the past I have read today's Gospel and thought, when in my life am I going to have a chance to die for my friends? But you know what? Every time you put your life on hold to help someone out you are dying for them. So the next time you have the chance to serve a friend, or even a stranger, remember that you are showing them the greatest love of all!
