Psalm 69
When I speak of a mantra, that is a phrase that will be meaningful and one that comes easily to the mind. What a good example, in this Psalm, as in many of the psalms. Yesterday, I was at St Leo's in San Antonio, and I walked around and stopped under a tree. And the ground was moving around me. From my peripheral vision, and then what I focused, on was the fact that I was standing in a swarm of big yellow adult grasshoppers!! They blended in so well, that I had not noticed them until they were moving out of my way and oh, I was afraid to move! When I finally did move, one hopped by and brushed against my leg, and I was afraid I was going to find one had hopped on my clothes!
I think those grasshoppers are like the moments in our days when we find ourselves deep into someone else's drama, or simply when we feel caught up in all the activity around us, and feel like our ground is moving around. It is in those moments when we need to step carefully, in my case very carefully, because I did not want to step on one of those giants, but we need to step away and find another place to be. We can ask God to hear our prayer and grant us peace. We can then pray for the drama, and yet be on our own solid ground, grounded in God, knowing He hears our prayers.
