..you have but one master, the Christ
Matthew 23:11
When you are at a dog park, the dogs show their personalities in so many funny ways. The other day, I saw one dog on a picnic table, one under another picnic table, lots of them just running in circles, and my favorite, the dog that whenever I circled the park on my bike, it ran along the fence barking and barking, clearly at me. What happens when the dogs are tired? Most will return to their human owners, and pant at their feet, and then when rested get up and start again.
It has been written that if we could model our prayer life a bit after a dog's life including their devotedness to their owners, we would be then practicing that humility that will make us more holy. To be focused on hearing God much like a dog will hear its owner's whistle or call, and know its name when called. To sit and rest near the owner, like to be near God when we go to church, or pray in our favorite place, is hopefully a peaceful picture that we can imagine, like a dog resting at its master's feet.
