The Day We're In Each Other's Homes

By Abby
On Thanksgiving Day most of us welcome guests into our homes...

Luke 19:5

When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house."

On Thanksgiving Day most of us welcome guests into our homes or walk through another person's door to join in their celebration. Our minds are on turkey, pie and if we're really focused, a side of gratitude and prayer. But what an amazing opportunity we have this Thursday to be like Jesus in his encounter with Zacchaeus.

Zacchaeus was not well liked. He had money and power but was unhappy. I'm sure if you think a little, you could come up with someone who fits this description. Is this person coming to your house this Thanksgiving or will you sit down the table from them?

All Jesus did was extend an invitation to Zacchaeus to be together. There is something powerful about being in each other's presence - especially someone we don't particularly care for. Are you going to be with a difficult person this Thanksgiving? Offer a kind word or gesture. Surprise him with your lack of judgement. Welcome that person to be part of your day on a personal level. It might be the encounter with Christ that makes them truly grateful.
