Ten Commandments, Take 2!

By Abby
Man, were the Israelites lucky to have Moses. He loved God and God's people even in their stupidity.

Exodus 34:28

So Moses was there with the Lord for forty days and forty nights, without eating any food or drinking any water, and he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words.

Man, were the Israelites lucky to have Moses. He loved God and God's people even in their stupidity. This is the second set of commandments. He kinda sorta threw and broke the first tablets when he saw that while he was communicating with the creator of the universe and receiving the Ten Commandments, the people had started worshiping a golden calf. You'd think they could've waited.

But here's the thing, we want to worship something. Our hearts and minds are inclined to reach outside of ourselves. So that's what they were doing. They didn't have Moses there to connect them to God, so they looked for something else. Bring on the calf.

Are you connected to God or is your relationship so distant that you're reaching out to worship other things - your self, your job, your wardrobe? Louie Giglio said, "When you follow the trail of your time, energy, and money, you find a throne. And whatever or whomever is on that throne is the object of your worship."

How do we bring God closer so we will be less tempted to worship the "golden calf?"

  • Take a step towards Him by opening your Bible tonight.

  • Hold your tongue when you are tempted to gossip with a coworker and allow the Holy Spirit to set up shop in your heart.

  • Invite Him into your home with a family prayer at bedtime or in the car running errands.
