Stop the Bleeding

By Abby
In many ways, we are the bleeding woman...

Mark 5:28-29

She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured." Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

This story of the hemorrhaging woman could be an entire bible study in and of itself. There are so many lessons to be learned. The one that seems relevant today as I visit my sons' school, is this.

In many ways, we are the bleeding woman.  As individuals, as a country - we are suffering.  Whether it's because of our sicknesses, our addictions, our divisions, our pride, our priorities, our stress …we are bleeding.  And when we see those things growing around us it can look like nothing is being done to stop the bleeding.

This woman had to take a step out in faith. Because of her unclean condition, she couldn't even go to the temple to ask God for help.  So God came out of the temple and into the streets where she could approach him, personally. And that's what we need to do. We need to take a step toward Jesus. He is ready for the encounter with us.

Today as I see my kids walk into school where they start the day with the Lord's Prayer, study the words of Jesus and get hugs from classmates, teachers and administration, I think that in some small way this is a step in the right direction to stop the bleeding. I pray that each one of us can take a step forward to encounter Jesus and find healing not only for ourselves but for all.
