And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.
When did we all become so offendable? It seems like every day there is something new to be outraged about. I can't point to any encounter in the gospels where Jesus got offended. He did get outraged and turned over the money changers tables. But he didn't get offended by their actions and storm off to complain about it. He saw a wrong and he righted it. In today's Gospel passage Jesus is preparing his disciples to go out to proclaim the Kingdom, heal the sick, and cast out demons. When they encounter people who don't believe or won't accept the message they have to give he tells them to shake the dust. I think that message is especially important for us in our current situation. As we engage as Christians in our current world we must remember that Jesus sent us out to proclaim the truth in a way that is healing and unifying. And if that message of unity is not welcomed, don't get offended, just shake the dust from your feet and move on.
