They were all amazed and said to one another, "What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."
Wouldn't it have been a sight to witness Jesus speak and drive out a demon? I would probably be mixed with fear, awe and curiosity. It definitely would've been hard to look away. Since Jesus is the Word, and since the Word is God, He spoke with authority, and people listened.
We can hear the same words today. Maybe not with our ears but with our hearts, like when Jesus speaks to us personally and through the words on the pages of scripture. How do we respond when we know a verse or parable is striking a cord? Do we act? Obey? Repent? That's the point! If we read or hear the word of God and don't react why are we listening in the first place?
Today is the feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta. She is a great model of obeying the word of God by doing little things in love. One of my favorite quotes from her: "Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own home. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting."
