1 John 3:2
Beloved, we are God's children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
A few weeks ago I wrote a reflection about a scene from The Force Awakens. I mentioned that as a 36 year old woman, I had yet to see any of the Star Wars movie from start to finish. Well, that changed over this vacation time. I watched them all. Yep. All 8! I'm not bragging. But at least now I can answer some of the questions my 3-year-old fires at me.
At one point in I can't remember which film, I found myself yelling at Yoda, "If you know, why don't you just tell him!" That little guy spoke in flipped-around sentence code and mystery and it frustrated me like crazy. But that's an underlying trend in the story - the process. These people come to know who they are through a process, a revealing, a training and decisions. And isn't it the same for you and me. We are baptized and claim the name of Christian and then throughout our walk God is revealed to us in different ways, training us to be the Christian soldiers that we are.
As we start the new year and have our own personal resolutions, I would add that a daily reminder that you are a child of God could be a life-changing one. It all starts there. That's where you begin, with the knowledge that you are a son or daughter of the creator of the universe. Then you take the next step with just an inkling of acceptance of that fact, then another. What a great year this could be...
