Responsibility

By Davis
He felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on him...

Numbers 11:10-11

When Moses heard the people, family after family, crying at the entrance of their tents, so that the LORD became very angry, he was grieved. "Why do you treat your servant so badly?" Moses asked the LORD. "Why are you so displeased with me that you burden me with all this people?

Boy did Moses have it tough in the book of Numbers! He had the entire tribe of Israel to take care of and all they could seem to do is mess up and complain to God. It not only got them into trouble but it got Moses in hot water as well. He felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on him and it was unbearable. Add to that all the complaining going on around him and he finally had enough and began to complain himself. Who could blame him? What Moses forgot was that the responsibility was not really his to bear. It was God who set the Israelites free. God who was leading them to the promised land. God who was providing them the very sustenance they were complaining about. Later in this chapter we see that God heard the cry of Moses. He distributed the responsibility among the elders and reminded them all who was really in control. Next time you feel overwhelmed by life's responsibilities remember God is in control.
