Rebuilding Bridges

By Davis
By that time in my life I had already burned quite a few bridges, especially with my siblings...

Mark 5:18-19

As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him. But he would not permit him but told him instead, "Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you."

I was not raised in a church going family. We didn't start going to church until I was well into my teen years. It took me a while to understand what the Christian life was all about. By that time in my life I had already burned quite a few bridges, especially with my siblings. When I did become a Christ follower it took forever for my family to believe I had changed. I can just imagine the experience this man, who has spent years possessed by demons, must have faced when Jesus told him to return to his family. But God gave him the grace to be saved from his demons, and I am sure God gave him the grace to face his family. Evangelizing to our family can be a scary prospect. Often times it's our family who has seen us in the darkest part of our journey. Just like this man cleansed from demons, Jesus wants us share God's grace with those closest to us. Maybe like me you have some burned bridges that need to be rebuilt before you can make God's presence known. Rest assured God will help you build those bridges. And they will be stronger than they were before.
