Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me."
I just took two days off of work. My plan - lay low, get some volunteer work done and relax. Then life happened. I filled both days with stuff. Nothing bad. All enjoyable & good. But I filled them up. Start to finish. It's a problem I have.
When I fill my time, I don't have any left for Jesus and when I don't have room for Jesus, (even when my time is filled with good things that serve Him) I lose perspective. In today's gospel reading, Martha gets pretty bold. She tells Jesus what to do! Not even His own mother does that! She lost perspective. It's hard to have perspective & LISTEN to Jesus when our minds can't stop because we are concerned with our to-do list. So Jesus gently corrects Martha- reminding her what belongs at the top of that list. Time spent with Him!
We hear it time and again - or do we? - put Him first, then the rest will fall into place.
