Put Yourself Into Circulation

By Abby
Money isn't meant to stay in one spot - the value of money is in movement...

Mark 12:16-17

They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's." So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." They were utterly amazed at him.

When you hear the word "circulation," chances are either newspapers or money come to mind. Money isn't meant to stay in one spot - the value of money is in movement - either through investing it, buying with it or doing something to earn it.

The same is true for us. We aren't meant to be sedentary Christians, staying in one spot in a stack of similar coins. We are called to be in circulation. And just like Caesar's face indicated that the coin belonged to the Roman government, the sign of the cross, the image of Jesus within and upon us - that is who we belong to. Now life can cause smudges and wear that can make it hard to recognize Christ in us. We get dirtied by sin and hardness of heart. But thankfully, the sacraments - the Eucharist, Reconciliation - and daily prayer can polish us up so it's clear who we belong to and that we are ready to go out into the world and make it a richer place.
