The centurion said in reply,
"Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;
only say the word and my servant will be healed.
Matthew 8:6-7
Did this man know his words would be uttered every day in churches around the world? Probably not. Yet how God works in mysterious ways! The Roman pleaded with Jesus to heal his servant. As a Roman centurion, he was accustomed to law and order and he knew he was asking a "favor" from someone seen by him as above his status. But the Roman's servant was suffering dreadfully and this man also respected his servant so much that he suffered too because of the man's great distress.
We plead our "case", our individual needs to Jesus, and many of us know that often the petitions for those around us move us to prayer too. God asks for our loyaty and he isn't scanning for spiritual giants, or superhero humans. Only for those loyal hearts who sincerely want to glorify his name for a world who wants to see saints and for many, seen an awful lot of sinners. May God purify our intentions today as we life someone we know to be suffering up in prayer.
