The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request.
So God said to him:
"Because you have asked for this—
not for a long life for yourself,
nor for riches,
1 Kings 3:10-11
Who doesn't want a long life or riches of some kind? Granted what makes one person rich may be different than for another person, and we can define riches as that which makes us successful, or wealthy, or well fed, or "all of the above". As I pray to our Loving Father God, I ask for the health and well being of my family and loved ones. But let's not forget the other components of a vital prayer life. It is also important to ask for forgiveness, to admit our failings and make amends. It is also vital to thank God for the very gift of our lives. Included in that form of prayer we can sit in God's presence, or stand and sing out loud, praising and worshipping Him.
Solomon asked God for understanding and wisdom, and was rewarded greatly, more so it says than anyone before him or anyone to come after him (1 Kings 3:12). That is the "All of the Above" answer to a vital and energetic prayer life. We can as children of God, ask Him today for a greater gift of that faith that would help us pray for others more fervently, and thank Him for our blessings and ask for more blessings, and note our need of forgiveness for our mistakes, and worship Him. It may not make us as wise as Solomon, but it will allow us to hear His words for us, and hopefully to better understand His call for us.
