Popsicles and Peace

By Abby
Two popsicles remain. One is purple, the other blue...

Is not the whole land available? Please separate from me. If you prefer the left, I will go to the right; if you prefer the right, I will go to the left. Genesis 13:9

Two popsicles remain. One is purple, the other blue. If there is just one child - the color doesn't matter. But Lord, have mercy, if there are two children and one wants blue. By golly, the other one is going to act like his life depends on him getting that blue popsicle. There have been many times where one of my sons pitches a fit and I say, "You only want it because your brother wants it!" Then I make them Rock-Paper-Scissor to settle it.

Abram does the opposite of this in today's first reading. He wants peace for his family so badly that he looks at the land and tells his nephew Lot, just take what you want. I'll take the other part. Lot chooses the more fertile, promising land and Abram is left with the dregs. But he trusts that God has plans that are greater than just grass and soil.

What a beautiful example of a blessed peacemaker. If it means the fighting stops, you take what you want. I know God will give me what I need.

Lord, give us the faith to know that you will always provide especially when we make sacrifices for the sake of peace.
