And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals."
Last week I traveled home to Kentucky to celebrate the life of my Grandmother. I don't think it's possible to attend a funeral without some kind of reflection on our own lives. Most of us wonder what our legacy will be when we die. How will I be remembered? Who will attend my funeral? Will I be missed? The question that came to my mind this time was, how has my life pointed to Christ? Today we see John the Baptist, who was an amazing preacher in his own right. He had many followers but his entire life and ministry pointed to one person, Jesus Christ. Let's all take a moment today to examine our lives. Are our actions point others to Christ or are we just tooting our own horns?
