Plank Hunting

By Davis
I have to admit I was a little taken aback by this at first...

Matthew 7:3

Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?

Abby had a great inspiration to make little personal prayer corners for the boys the other week. Shortly after that a friend at church brought the boys some little crosses to put in the space. She also promised a pair of little 10 commandment plaques with the commandments written in a way that children can understand them. She said it is a great way for the kids to be able to do an examination of conscience each night before bed. I have to admit I was a little taken aback by this at first. After All these children are 5 & 6 years old. How much examination of conscience do they need?  Then I got to today's Gospel passage…

I have to admit that I am not the greatest at seeing the plank. Maybe if I had been taught at an early age to do a nightly examination of conscience I would be better at it. The good news is it's never too late to start. Let's commit to looking at our daily actions and finding those planks. And bring on the kid style commandments, let's get back to the basics!
