"Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven."

Oh those fortunate seventy-two! As far as discipleship goes, they had it all! They drove out demons, and healed the sick, restored the hurting, and taught the meaning of life! They were not weighed down by earthly matters like the price of gas, or the amount of tread on the tires, or how much is left this month on the data plan. Do we pine for such freedoms? Do we think about the life of a disciple of Christ back in those days?
Jesus made it clear in these words what is important for any of us. It is that we are made in the image and likeness of God and that our lives are forever. It is not enough that we follow our routines again and again, only for our short term goals such as paying the mortgage, feeding the kids, paying for education. We go about our daily lives for sure, but let's offer up our routines for God's greater glory! We can elevate our work by working for God, if we are sweeping floors or teaching our children, or caring for the sick. No matter our state in life, we can look upward with the hope that our eternal reward is waiting there for us, and that our names are known by the very God of Love who made us.
