Options

By Elle
During a youth meeting the teens were given ideas so they could make decisions

Then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday;
Then the LORD will guide you always
and give you plenty even on the parched land.

Isaiah 58: 10-11

During a youth meeting the teens were given ideas so they could make decisions on Lenten commitments.  Each idea was on its own paper that was taped around the room so they could walk around and reflect.  Giving up chocolate or ice cream were not options. Why?  Because in this group of teens, chocolate and ice cream are not the indulgences that they are advertised to be.

Their options included careful use of social media and scrutiny over amount and content of screen time in general, using the phone while driving, and speaking with someone you like face to face, not just sending emotion emojis.  Let's pray today for our young people who need role models and enagagement with the community other than internet "friends", and perhaps we will be inspired to reflect on our own social media habits or behaviors this week.  If we expect our future generatins to be filled with hope, let's give them the light they need to guide them and keep them holy.
