Not Just Healed

By Davis
You see Elizabeth is a very beautiful brown woman and I'm a goofy looking white guy...

Luke 18:42

Jesus told him, "Have sight; your faith has saved you."

I will never forget the day I introduced my sister, Elizabeth, to the staff here at the radio station. Our then music director Olivia gave me a wink and used air quotes while saying "Oh, this is your sister". I think Olivia thought we were dating and I was trying to hide it for some reason. HA! You see Elizabeth is a very beautiful brown woman and I'm a goofy looking white guy, so most people have a hard time believing we are brother and sister. We adopted my sister a few days after she was born. Five year old Davis didn't know that she was biracial, I just thought she was a beautiful color that I didn't get to be. But the fact that we have different genes doesn't make her any less my sister. That's that beauty of adoption!

In the Gospel of Luke we see Jesus preparing the way for us as adopted children of God. Have you ever noticed that when he heals these outcasts in these Gospel passages that he doesn't say "your faith has healed you"?  He says "your faith has saved you" He says the same thing in chapter 17 to the leper and in chapter 7 to the sinful woman when he forgives her sins. These are all people who were outcasts from traditional Jewish society. These are all people who had no place in God's family. But Jesus sets them, and us, up for adoption. I am grateful to be an adopted child of God.
