More Seeing and Less Looking?

By Elle
Henry David Thoreau said: It is not what you look at that matters, it's what you see

By faith we understand that the universe was ordered by the word of God,
so that what is visible came into being through the invisible.

Hebrews 11:2-3

Henry David Thoreau said: It is not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. In this chapter of his letter to the Hebrews, Paul mentions the Old Testament verses the Hebrew people knew so well, and points out all those times where faith was required when they couldn't see or understand, like Noah, when he built the ark and relied on his revelation and the "eyes of faith" to finish such a huge project even when others around him didn't understand the reasons.

I get so caught up in the day to day activities in my life, that I can fail to "see" beyond the hood of my car!  It takes an effort some days to set aside moments and regroup, to pray for others and even to reach out and actually see a neighbor long enough to have conversation, or see someone who might need a helping hand with groceries, or a door opened. I will try today to do more "seeing" and notice the needs of those around me.
