May His Name Be Blessed

By Elle
The moon was full the other night and as it rose over the bay, I enjoyed watching everyone outside taking pictures with all kinds of cameras.

May his name be blessed forever;
as long as the sun his name shall remain.
In him shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed;
all the nations shall proclaim his happiness.

Psalm 72:17

The moon was full the other night and as it rose over the bay, I enjoyed watching everyone outside taking pictures with all kinds of cameras. We were watching for just the right moment to catch the perfect shot.  What is it about the sun and moon that captures our imagination?  The sun is essential for life on earth as we know it, and at night the moon reflects the sun's light to guide us in the dark. That's kind of important and yet we live with the sun and moon, in its phases, every day and night.  This scripture verse reminds me of the permanence of God, no matter what happens in our daily lives.

Let's consider the things we take for granted, and enjoy the last week of Advent reflecting on the permanence of our lives and our families.  Just like trying to take the perfect picture of the moon rising over the bay, many of us will try to make this Christmas the "most perfect" one ever, yet let's also take in perspective that it may become just a "snapshot" of our lives. It's more than just the moment, like this Psalmist wrote so many years ago, God's name is permanent, and it is good that we bless His name and are grateful for his creation.  For me, looking at the big picture takes the stress out of trying to make everything "picture perfect".
