Luck and the Hail Mary

By Elle
I was at a sports bar..

Wait for the Lord with courage, be stouthearted and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:14

I was at a sports bar and looked up to see ESPN's subtitle: Hail Mary, Luck or Science?  The  sports analysts were discussing the last college football game and the beauty of a long football pass, but I had an entirely different perspective.  In 1975 football, Roger Staubach prayed a Hail Mary as he sent an incredible pass down the field and after that, the term has caught on in the sports world, but what about us in our daily lives?

In times of uncertainty, we can react to whatever comes our way, or we can wait and act.  If we pray a Hail Mary or whatever prayer comes to our heart, we learn to slow down just a bit and not overreact to an unexpected circumstance. I think we live in an "instant everything" culture, and I also think it's very important we decide that it is often not wise to instantly act without thinking and praying.  We are the quarterbacks of our own lives, and like the scripture says: we need to wait and be stouthearted when we feel fear or anxiety or uncertainty.  Even though the sports analysts were not talking about praying, I am, and that is not luck or science. It is holy and spiritual.
