And whoever gives only a cup of cold water
to one of these little ones to drink
because the little one is a disciple—
amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward."

A little cup of cold water goes a long way. When was the last time you were really thirsty? Yesterday? It's so hot out, many of us can think of a very recent time when a cup of cold water was refreshing. I took my daughter's pup for a long walk and when we got back, after she had cooled a bit in the air conditioning, she played in the bowl of ice water I had set out. As she pawed it and played with the splashing water, it occurred to me how grateful she seemed. She looked up at me and flashed that dog smile they have.
Jesus asks of us a loyal faithfulness to go out and reach out to those around us who need to hear a positive message of love. It takes an effort on our part though because too easily we get overwhelmed or distracted by circumstances around us and may not see an opportunity to help someone in need. And many times our kind actions will go either unnoticed or even misinterpreted. God knows all and hears our hearts. Maybe drinking that cup of cold water on a long hot day is like a "cold shot" of blessing we receive when we help someone, love somone, and talk about God. .
