Life From Ruins

By Davis
I vividly remember seeing the image of these majestic pine trees strewn over the landscape like toothpicks...

Psalm 126:6

Those who go forth weeping, carrying sacks of seed, Will return with cries of joy, carrying their bundled sheaves.

I remember seeing footage of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens back in 1980. It was a devastating catastrophe that forever changed the landscape of that serene mountain wilderness. Over 230 square miles North of the mountain was covered with volcanic debris and more than 4 billion board feet of timber was blown down. I vividly remember seeing the image of these majestic pine trees strewn over the landscape like toothpicks. Yet by the mid 80's scientists were already able to find new vegetation growing in in the blast zone. Almost 40 years later now the landscape is mostly green and lush again. The devastation caused by the explosion is still very evident but life has returned to the valley. Life always finds a way!

In the wake of the disasters we have faced over the last few weeks we find hope that life will not only continue but thrive. In today's Psalm we find the Israelites rejoicing at their return from exile. They have faced hardship and devastation but God promises a thriving life if they will simply trust in Him. Today let's remember the hope that we have in Christ and do our part to share that hope with those who have faced hardship and devastation.
