Leaving Behind or Starting Anew?

By Elle
I found a piece of paper with tally marks,..

As a result of this,
many of his disciples returned to their former way of life
and no longer walked with him.
Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go?

John 67-68

I found a piece of paper with tally marks, you know the lines grouped in fives with the fifth one crossed over the four? It had lots and lots of tally marks and a bit of a smear on it.  I was very curious and when I discovered which of my sons marked it I asked what he was counting.  He counted the licks it took him to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, and it was upwards of 1123.  I still have the paper.  It is one of my favorite memories because of the staying power that he had while sitting on the porch just wondering and being curious about what he had heard in an ad.

With the Easter season upon us, are we going to leave behind everything we learned during Lent?  What did we learn about ourselves?  Was it easy to give up something or did we follow through with a volunteer commitment? Did we get to Easter Sunday and go right back to our habit that we had abstained from over Lent?  I'd like to focus today on both the stayng power of that young boy who finally got his answer by committing to finish the task and thus finding his answer?  Do we commit like Peter to our new lives in Christ with the : Where else would we go? Or do we return to our former way of lives ignoring the possible spiritual growth we gain by asking questions, trying new things, and recommitting our lives to the way of Christ as He taught us.
