Knocking The Dents Out

By Davis
I can't remember who's great idea it was to wash the hood with our whole bodies but the next thing we knew one of us slipped...

Isaiah 65:17

See, I am creating new heavens and a new earth; The former things shall not be remembered nor come to mind.

What is it about washing a car that is so exciting to a child? I remember my step-father letting my siblings and I wash his VW Scirocco one saturday morning. I thought that car was cooler than a ferrari! If you have never seen a kid wash a car let me just tell you, they pour their entire body and soul into it. I can't remember who's great idea it was to wash the hood with our whole bodies but the next thing we knew one of us slipped and BOOM, there was a butt sized dent smack in the middle of his beautiful hood. We were so upset at what we had done I think Bobby felt more bad for us than for his own car. Before we knew it he got out a plunger and used it to pull the dent out of the hood.  "There" he said, "just like new." But I could still see where the dent had been.

As forgiving and gracious as Bobby was he couldn't actually make his car new again. And I'm pretty sure he remembers this story. But today we are reminded that God wants to make us new again. So much so that he will completely forget our sin. As we continue our journey through these last days of Lent I would encourage you to reflect on the ways that God has made you new again. I bet you won't be able to find where the dents were no matter how hard you look!
