It's easy to think this verse is just about giving money to the church...
Luke 21:3-4
He said, "I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood."
It's easy to think this verse is just about giving money to the church. But I think there can be so much more to it than that. I think God is calling us to give not only in our physical poverty but in our spiritual poverty as well. When my daughter passed away I was in a very dark place spiritually. I didn't have much energy to give. So I stayed away from church. Until I ran into a friend who was like this widow in today's passage. Even in her darkest time she continued to give herself spiritually to God. Even when she didn't have the energy. She showed me that the widow's mite means giving back to God in every way. I will tell you honestly it's hard to give myself to God after losing my daughter. But like the widow I give from my poverty.
