2 Peter 3:17-18a
Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
How do you measure growth? Sometimes it's easy. My son turned 5 last week and he ran to our growth chart and made me mark how tall he is. He also made sure to point out to me how much his right arm had grown. "See, I can reach out and touch the counter now." Sometimes measuring growth isn't as clear. Have you improved at work? Has your marriage become stronger? What about your knowledge of God? How can we quantify something like this?
In this reminder from Peter, he is telling us how to be prepared for the second coming - by growing in grace and knowledge. In essence, he's saying - grow in your identity as a Christ follower. Be more like him!
You can't mark on a chart how much you've grown in grace, but I promise that if you ask God to help you be more like Jesus, He will answer that prayer and you'll notice a change. I bet others will too.
