How Do You Know What You're Getting?

By Abby
I'm in the market for a set of sheets...

Daniel 2:44

In the lifetime of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed or delivered up to another people; rather, it shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and put an end to them, and it shall stand forever.

I'm in the market for a set of sheets. I went online to look for a good Cyber Monday deal and within 10 minutes I was completely frustrated. I clicked on "reviews" and for the same set of sheets saw one person say "The softest, most comfortable sheets ever!" and another person say, "These are so rough and hard!" For one set with "100% cotton" in the name a reviewer said, "I didn't realize these were polyester." What? Is this a bait & switch? How do you know what you're getting?

It's really easy to become frustrated like this over different parts of our lives. A promise of a promotion at work. A promise of faithfulness from a spouse. A promise of a medicine working. A promise of getting what you paid for.

In the first reading from today's Mass, Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar's dream and reveals that there will be four great kingdoms, each destroyed, but the Kingdom of heaven will stand forever. When things of this world are letting you down or a lack of truth is becoming overwhelmingly frustrating, just remind yourself of the promise that will never be broken. God's word and the kingdom of heaven will never fail. Oh, and I'm confident that in heaven we will all be sleeping on Egyptian Cotton.
