Honesty, Responsibility, and Courage

By Elle
Pope Francis addressed the UN members regarding climate change this past week

I, Zechariah, raised my eyes and looked:
there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.
I asked, "Where are you going?"
He answered, "To measure Jerusalem,
to see how great is its width and how great its length."

Zechariah 2:5

Pope Francis addressed the UN members regarding climate change this past week. He said three words should be the motivation behind every deed we all do regarding "building our common home" (Laudato Si) and building peace and protecting the environment: honesty, responsibility, and courage.

We would all benefit from pondering and praying over those words this weekend, as we anjoy our rest time, chore time, Sunday time.  Can we reconsider that foam cup? Can we bring our own utensils when we enjoy food rather than use plastic?  Can we remember to bring our own grocery bags instead of using the store ones?

In this scripture verse the angel measures Jerusalem and Zechariah recounts what he sees.  I cannot help but think as I read scripture passages like these now of the words of Pope Francis:  "It is their future (the young people) not ours" and "There is still time."

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us
