Mark 10:28
Peter began to say to him, "We have given up everything and followed you."
What are the most important things in your life? If you asked a child that question you'd probably get answers like, my bike, my toys, my iPad- maybe the more sensitive ones would mention the family pet or even Mom and Dad. I think as we get older, our answers to that question shift to be reflections of our values rather than what just entertains us or makes us happy. Hopefully we'd all honestly say, our faith, our family and our friendships.
Isn't it handy that on average, God give us around 80 years to figure out what is important? In the gospel reading today, Peter admits to Jesus that he and the other apostles are curious to know what they will receive in exchange for everything they have sacrificed.
We are incredibly blessed today to not only have a little bit of maturity to know what is truly important but also to have the knowledge of the Resurrection and promise of eternal life. We know why we are supposed to let go of the things that distract us from loving God more fully. So have you used these year you've been given wisely? What is most important to you and how do you show it?
