Mark 1:17
Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Do you remember the movie Mr. Mom? I was pretty young when it came out so I don't really remember all the details but the basic story revolved a dad losing his job and staying home to care for the kids while his wife went to work. This is of course a huge blow to his ego and he feels downgraded as a stay at home dad. He wanted to be the strong heroic breadwinner of the family. Of course by the end of the movie he realizes he is way more of a hero by taking care of all the "everyday" work that comes with running a household. When Jesus called the disciples he didn't say "Come on, I'll make you the kings of heaven and earth." Nope, he called everyday people from their everyday jobs to follow him. To do the everyday task of sharing the good news with those they came into contact with. Just like the disciples Jesus is calling us to experience the greatness of His kingdom in our everyday life.
