Jesus told his disciples this parable:
"A man going on a journey
called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one--
to each according to his ability.
Matthew 25:14-15
In this parable if you read on in Matthew, many of us are familiar with the words: 'Well done good and faithful servant." I would love to hear that from Jesus at the end of my time! What I find interesting with this passage as it relates to my experience, is that many of us try to be someone we are not. Does anyone feel pressured to conform to society's norms just because everyone else seems to be? God gives us each different talents and if we compare ourselves constantly to someone who has different gifts than we do, then we will likely never really understand the call God gave you and me uniquely.
We need to watch for what could be considered a myopic view, or a narrow view of our surroundings and be sure that we are asking God: where do I fit in? We do not necessarily need to try and follow the plans of someone who is telling me what I should do, or who I should be, but instead ask: where do I fit into God's plan for me? The answer to that question will most likely lead us to the reply from God: "Well done my good and fatihful servant."
