God Can Work with Your Empty Hands

By Abby
I've heard many people say it took hitting rock bottom for them to commit their life to Jesus...

We have in our day no prince, prophet, or leader, no burnt offering, sacrifice, oblation, or incense, no place to offer first fruits, to find favor with you. But with contrite heart and humble spirit let us be received; Daniel 3:38-39a

I've heard many people say it took hitting rock bottom for them to commit their life to Jesus. There is something about having nothing left that opens our eyes to the richness of a life in Christ. All this other stuff has been taken from me. I'm at my worst. I have nothing. Lord, if you still want me you can have me. Please, because I need you.

In today's first reading, we see three faithful men praising God from within a literal fire. Talk about having nothing! They already were servants, but now they are in the midst of their execution. They have nothing to offer but their faith. Through their courageous praises, they reached out their empty hands towards heaven. We think the full hands with plenty of skills, ideas or possessions are the most useful, but with God faithful empty hands are worth more than gold.

What are you holding on to that might be keeping God from placing something better in your hands?

Lord, give me the courage to praise you even when I feel like I have nothing to give.
