There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;
there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
1 Corinthians 12:4-5
When I ask young children which gift of the Holy Spirit they want to ask God for "more of", after looking at the words: Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement (Counsel), Fortitude (courage), Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord (God is Awesome), most of the boys say Fortitude and Wisdom, girls will say Piety and Knowledge. These gifts are given at Baptism and strengthened at Confirmation so I then tell the childen, you have all of these gifts, you just need to pray about how God wants you to use them and how you can help him! They get all excited.
As adults, we need to continue to ask God and pray how we are to enable Him to work through us to be that light for the world, or the example of kindness from which someone near us can learn. These gifts do not stop gifting us at childhood so neither should we stop asking God for greater use of the gifts we have been given.
