Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? Matthew 9:15
Jesus answered this question on fasting (Matt 9:14) and when put in perspective, it is His answer for the time He was on earth, proclaiming the kingdom of God, saying that was a joyful moment, not a somber moment.
When we fast during Lent we are reminded of the body's (temporal) needs. Many of us spend alot of time and energy to maintain a healthy physical appearance, but do we spend the same amount of time and energy on our spiritual growth? Yes, we need to take care of our bodies, and can we also reflect on the necessity to take care of our souls? As we consider our earthly spiritual journey, our bodies certainly come with us! This is why it is so important to fast from that which makes us comfortable, hopefully reminding ourselves to be grateful for what we do have. If we spend 15 minutes getting ready for the day, is it possible to spend 15 minutes in prayer to prepare for the day's spiritual journey?
Question for Reflection
Do we, as an indisputable truth, recognize that God will provide for our earthly (temporal) needs, even if we don't know how?
Lord, may we trust in you for our every need!
