Today the Church celebrates two giants of faith, St Peter and St Paul. The question Jesus asked his disciples next is the one we can ask ourselves: "But who do you say that I am?" (Mt 16:15) In today's online world, we can customize nearly everything from our shopping lists, to dining choices, and our clothing, but does that make us susceptible to customizing our faith choices? Are our choices to go to church, or not, to follow the Church's teachings, or not, based on our preferences? If so, who do we prefer?
Let's pray today that we follow our call as authentic Christians in our daily walk. There will be trials and difficult times, but the great saints of the Church are saints because they persevered through the trials by keeping close to Christ, by offering up sufferings to Christ for the sake of sinners. We do not need to rewrite all the rules just because a teaching seems difficult. Let us also pray for those who are in spiritual and even physical prisons because of their life's choices, because being customizable can sometimes have unintended consequences.
